Minimum Qualifications:A bachelor or advanced degree in physical, biological or forensic science from an accredited college or university. Professional experience in an accredited forensic laboratory, institution, or identification division in the specific discipline being advertised may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Duties: This is professional work conducting laboratory tests and experiments, gathering instrumental data and documenting results while assisting crime laboratory analysts in the examination and/or analysis of physical evidence in criminal investigations submitted to the crime laboratory, and evaluating analytical methods and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of laboratory terminology and techniques used in the analysis of physical evidence within a forensic laboratory; knowledge of scientific method and the ability to independently apply it in the analysis of samples and conducting experiments; knowledge of the correct procedures of handling and preserving physical evidence; skill in the use of a variety of scientific laboratory or field equipment; skill in communicating laboratory procedures to others; ability to conduct laboratory tests; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to testify in court regarding the results of testing.

Notes: Applicants being considered for employment with FDLE will be required to submit to drug testing and a background investigation, which includes a financial credit check. Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy guidelines. The elements of the selection process may include a work sample and/or oral interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement. This position is classified as Special Risk retirement, which provides members a greater retirement credit accrual rate and requires fewer years of service to reach full retirement benefits than is required for non-Special Risk members.
