The counties included are: Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Liberty, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Taylor, Wakulla, Walton, and Washington. Salary is commensurate with experience. Successful applicant must pass a background screening, fingerprinting, and successful completion of a urine drug test will be a condition of employment. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a mental health related field (e.g., Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Ed.S in Agency Counseling, Rehabilitative Counseling) with course work and practice (pre – or post degree) in the provision of mental health care or Florida licensure or license eligibility under FAC 491 as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Mental Health Counselor (if claiming license eligible, applicant must provide documentation from the 491 Board) is required. Faxed applications should include the position # on each page of the application and on any other faxed documents DESCRIPTION This is work diagnosing and treating mental disorders; learning disabilities; and cognitive, behavioral, and emotional problems using individual, child, family, and group therapies. May design and implement behavior modification programs or investigate processes of learning and teaching and develop psychological principles and techniques applicable to educational problems. EXAMPLES OF WORK Observes individual’s behavior, in group interactions, or other situations to detect indications of mental deficiency, abnormal behavior, or maladjustment. Develops treatment plan, including type, frequency intensity, and duration of therapy, in collaboration with psychiatrist and other specialists. Analyzes information to assess client problems, determine advisability of counseling, and refer client to other specialists, institutions, or support services. Conducts individual and group counseling sessions regarding psychological or emotional problems, such as stress, substance abuse, and family situations. Responds to client reactions, evaluates effectiveness of counseling or treatment, and modifies plan as needed. Interviews individuals, couples, or families, and reviews records to obtain information on medical, psychological, emotional, relationship, or other problems. Selects, administers, scores, and interprets psychological tests to obtain information on individual's intelligence, achievement, interest, and personality. Utilizes treatment methods, such as psychotherapy, hypnosis, behavior modification, stress reduction therapy, psychodrama, and play therapy. Plans and develops accredited psychological service programs in psychiatric center or hospital, in collaboration with psychiatrists and other professional staff. Consults reference material, such as textbooks, manuals, and journals, to identify symptoms, make diagnoses, and develop approach to treatment. Assists clients to gain insight, define goals, and plan action to achieve effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. Administers standardized tests to evaluate intelligence, achievement, and personality and to diagnose disabilities and difficulties. Evaluates results of counseling methods to determine there liability and validity of treatments. Conducts experiments to study educational problems, such as motivation, adjustment, teacher training, and individual differences in mental abilities. Conducts research to aid introduction of programs in schools to meet current psychological, educational, and sociological needs of children. Interprets and explains test results, in terms of norms, reliability, and validity, to teachers, counselors, students, clients, and other entitled parties. Refers individuals to community agencies to obtain medical, vocational or social services for child or family. Plans remedial classes and testing programs designed to meet needs of special students. Recommends placement of students in classes and treatment programs based on individual needs. Plans, supervises, and conducts psychological research infields such as personality development, and diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders. Directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities of psychological staff and student interns engaged in patient evaluation and treatment in psychiatric facility. Provides psychological services and advice to private firms and community agencies on individual cases or mental health programs. Develops, directs, and participates in staff training programs.
