The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) mission is to ensure success for all individuals with learning disabilities in school, at work and in life. We: - Connect parents and others with resources, guidance and support so they can advocate effectively for their children. - Deliver evidence-based tools, resources and professional development to educators to improve student outcomes. - Develop policies and engage advocates to strengthen educational rights and opportunities. We have several exciting projects in our pipeline and are looking for dedicated, intelligent, committed interns to work alongside staff in accomplishing our goals. Internship Description: The internship program at NCLD will allow Bachelor level students to interact with key members of the NCLD staff on a variety of tasks including: - Being a key part of our Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Scholarship selection process: Each year, we grant scholarships to high school seniors with learning disabilities (LD) and our interns are at the center of the team reading applications and making decisions about what students to move forward in the process. - Project-related research: NCLD interns delve into the internet to research and produce content on topics like juvenile justice and LD, LD in the workplace, bullying and kids with special needs, and more. - Maintenance and expansion of NCLDs informational and resource databases: Our Resource Locator is a key tool for families searching out information and services for LD in their hometowns. As an NCLD intern, you'll be searching out new resources, updating, and refining the resources available to the people we serve. - Web maintenance: Our website, LD.org, strives to be the best online resource on learning disabilities for parents, educators, and people with LD. We're constantly publishing new content and working on ways to make our site better meet the needs of all users. NCLD interns assist in this behind-the-scenes work; interested interns will have the chance to become acquainted with the Joomla CMS, Basecamp, social media sites, and other web production tools. A limited number of internships are available for the Spring 2012 semester. Apply now! Internships are based in our NYC office located at 27th Street & Park Avenue South. The internship is unpaid but interns receive a $10 stipend for each day worked + reimbursement of travel expenses.
