DescriptionNetwork Rail is at the heart of revitalising Britain’s railway. From the rejuvenation of King’s Cross station and the upgrade and expansion of Thameslink, to Europe’s largest civil engineering project – Crossrail -we are involved in some of the most ambitious and diverse ventures the UK has ever seen. This will help us deliver the better railway that is vital for the economic prosperity of this country, transforming how people travel and make a massive difference to passengers and freight users right across Britain.
Over the next ten years, Britain’s rail traffic will increase by 30 per cent – making ours the fastest-growing railway in Europe. The work we carry out today will shape the Britain of tomorrow. A brand new location For the very first time, we’re bringing our central teams under one roof at our national centre - The Quadrant: MK in the heart of Milton Keynes. The new location has been designed to help us work more effectively, as well as offering unbeatable quality of life, with all the amenities of a major city in the heart of the countryside. This move will create a number of new opportunities for talented individuals to join Network Rail. Brief Description How your talents fit in Today, we’re carrying more people, moving more freight and creating faster, more efficient journeys. As demand on the railway increases and unutilised capacity becomes more scarce, the challenge of creating high-quality timetables becomes more complex. But that’s something you’ll relish. About the role What you need to join us A born problem-solver, you’ll have a genuine enthusiasm for thinking laterally, finding solutions to complicated business challenges and seeing tangible results. That won’t just mean getting trains to run on time: it’ll mean getting people to work, to football matches, to airports - and moving goods up and down the country. There’s no specific experience that will make you right for this role – what’s more important is your ability to think in the right way, as is IT competency. We’ll train you on the computer systems and processes involved, which will take between six and 12 weeks. After that, you’ll join one of our teams in Milton Keynes, helping to plan and improve timetables anywhere from one day up to two years in advance. Along with your natural drive to deliver to deadlines you will learn to use real pragmatism to balance the needs of your customers, the different train operating companies and internal and external users of the railway. With a naturally enquiring, analytical mind, this is the kind of work you’ll find fascinating, giving you the opportunity to develop a long-term, rewarding career with Network Rail.
