Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer will deliver productivity, increase manufacturing efficiency and quality, and reduce costs by:
· Planning, designing, and implementing process enhancements to improve quality and eliminate waste · Making recommendations for selection of suppliers, materials and machines · Removing production bottlenecks and reducing machine cycle times · Implementing technical corrective actions · Improving the facility layout · Implementing lean manufacturing principles · Solving complex problems as assigned
Daily activities include support of operations on the production floor, process and equipment improvements, providing data-driven analysis for effective decision making and process improvements in methodologies, resource allocation, system design, materials management and other manufacturing processes. This position is responsible for providing technical support in defining and documenting best manufacturing practices, and ensuring product quality by establishing standards, testing methods, testing finished product, and completing action items on time and within budget.
Specific tasks would include:
  • Managing multiple technical projects
  • Project planning and organizing: strong process orientation
  • Creating manufacturing layouts or drawings using AutoCAD and/or Pro/E
  • Developing vendor relationships to optimize manufacturing capabilities both internal and external
  • Creating quality inspection programs utilizing available inspection equipment and methods; recommending new inspection methods as required
  • Providing technical assistance to the shop floor to qualify new parts and processes or resolve manufacturing issues
  • Optimizing existing manufacturing processes
  • Designing special tooling, fixtures and inspection equipment to enhance manufacturing capabilities
  • Participating in the Safety Excellence and Leadership program
  • Researching, justifying, and implementing capital expenditures
Qualifications Qualifications
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Industrial or Metallurgical)
    • Minimum 4-6 years in a metal turning or other precision machining environment
    • Demonstrated ability to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
    • Strong project management skills
    • Lean manufacturing experience (certification preferred
    • Ability to create, modify and use program language including G-Code and Fanuc Controllers
    • Understanding and experience with quality tools such as SPC, QFD, FMEA, DoE, PPAP, etc.
    • Knowledge of CNC machining practices including, turning, milling, grinding, multiple spindle screw machines and conventional machining practices
    • Knowledge/experience with CNC programming and machine tool optimization.
    • Knowledge/experience with special processes including, but not limited to heat treatment, metal plating, coating, welding and EDM
    • Knowledge of inspection equipment and methods used in the machining environment
    • Proficient with Pro/E and AutoCAD
    • Ability to communicate comfortably with all levels within an organization.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
