Job Description: Position will be responsible for leading a team of Category Management professionals working across Newell Rubbermaid's business at Target. This individual will be responsible for leading and developing the team, as well as taking a lead role in supporting the Category Management efforts for a major category. The Sr. Category Manager will work closely with the MMBI group at Target and buyers on key initiatives, planning cycles, line reviews, etc. to develop and grow total category sales. Position reports to Group Director, Category Management.
Job Responsibilities: · Lead, coach and develop 2-3 Category Managers supporting the Target business. · Ensure the fundamentals of Category Management and industry best practices are deployed throughout the team and present in analysis and recommendations. · Own the Category Management relationship with Target's MMBI department, as well as buyer, acting as a trusted category advisor. · Generate weekly reporting and provide insights, identify opportunities and deliver solutions that drive profitable category growth. · Direct and perform analysis across a wide variety of retail business development issues and make fact based recommendations. · Lead the line review process, make recommendations on category space allocations and develop POGs using space planning software. · Develop presentations and present to Target buyer and key stakeholders (e.g. business reviews, line reviews, product/segment deep dives, shopper insights, etc.) · Become category SME and facilitate the development and deployment of industry Best Practices. · Apply knowledge of category sales strategies toward supply chain maintenance and improvements will be expected. This includes item forecasting, pack size assessment, planning for promotional sales volatility and the ability to work with replenishment systems.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree (emphasis in business/marketing or related field), MBA a plus. · 5-7 years of experience working with a leading CPG company (Category Management, Shopper Insights or related position). · Experience as Category Captain on major National retailer. · Demonstrated knowledge of Category Management philosophies, tools and processes and proven record of success. · Strategic thinking, self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines. · Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g. Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.). · Strong familiarity with syndicated data, measures and software (e.g. Nielsen/Nitro, NPD, IRI, Feature Vision, Spectra, etc.). · Prior experience analyzing retailer data and presenting key finding and recommendations to senior level executives. · Proven ability to analyze and identify insights from a combination of data sources. · Familiarity with space management software (e.g. JDA, Prospace, Spaceman, etc.). · Strong project management, follow-up, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
Additional Requirements:
  • Experience working in Category Management on the Target business with a leading CPG company
  • Proficiency with Info Retriever, GRM and other Target tools and processes
  • Experience managing people
  • Knowledge of Vision Chain / MicroStrategy, a plus
  • Category Management Association Certification, a plus
Location: · Minneapolis, MN with 10-15% travel
