Software Architect Healthcare Job Listing at Nuance in Reston, VA

Lead the architecture design and development of healthcare applications. Interface with internal and external development organizations, and customer systems. Author design documents, provide proof of concept and technology justification for architectural decisions. Prescribe and implement development best practices and reviews across the development cycle. Ensure software quality, security and compliance to required standards.

• Provide architectural and design expertise for building Nuance CAC/CDI/CLU enabled healthcare applications.
• Design relational and object models and interfaces for application components
• Write technical specifications for application or infrastructure components and major features.
• Conduct design and code reviews, and ensure that the products meet required quality and security standards.
• Evaluate internal and external tools and libraries, and guide technology choices and architectures
• Interpret integration requirements and collaborate with cross functional team members including internal Nuance teams as well as 3rd party development partner teams.
• Design and develop critical architecture and infrastructure components
• Conduct technical presentations and periodic briefings on the product architecture and technology
• Provide guidance and technical support to the client services and sales teams as needed

• 10+ years of software development experience; 6+ years demonstrable and solid Java experience.
• Strong demonstrable experience in architecting and building web based applications
• Skilled in Java/J2EE technologies like servlets, JSP, JDBC. Java/J2EE certification a plus.
• Experience with relational databases like SQL Server or Oracle. Big data experience a plus.
• Experience with XML/DOM, HTML, CSS, Javascript, AJAX, Ant, Maven, Junit
• Experience with Service Oriented Architectures - knowledge of SOAP and RESTFul web services, SaaS, hosted applications
• Experience with common Java frameworks including Struts, Spring, Hibernate, Axis
• Experience with Object Oriented design and development.
• Experience with relational data modeling and schema design
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and Scrum
• Comfortable working with cutting edge technologies in a fast paced, team oriented environment.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of C++, C#, .Net.
• Knowledge of Health Information technology, HL7, CDA, interfacing
• Experience with Natural Language Processing or speech technologies a plus.
• Familiarity with medical coding systems like SNOMED, ICD9, ICD10, HCPCS
• Technical/Team leadership
• Knowledge of one or more source code control systems. Perforce is preferred.

Education: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related field. Masters degree preferred.
