The Green Jobs Training Program is housed in NYDesigns in the division of Adult and Continuing Education at LaGuardia Community College, offered in partnership with Queens Botanical Garden. The Program introduces participants to the basic concepts of sustainability and provides the necessary skills to work in the following areas:

Green Cleaning & Housekeeping: Acquire necessary skills to maintain a high indoor environmental quality to protect the health of building occupants through proper and environmentally sustainable cleaning practices.

Waste Management: Learn appropriate strategies for waste reduction; safety and efficiency in handling and processing; source separation for material reclamation and recycling; and proper disposal.

Sustainable Landscape Design & Maintenance: Learn the basics of sustainable landscape design, plant selection, soil conservation and remediation techniques, Integrated Pest Management, urban agriculture, and more!

Compensation and Benefits:

This is an unpaid position, but you will have the chance to participate in one of our three training modules. In the first week, you will receive training in the general principles of sustainability, climate change, resource allocation, LEED for buildings, and either customer service or OSHA. In the second week, you will receive specialized training in one of the three sectors (Waste Management, Green Cleaning & Housekeeping, or Sustainable Landscape Design & Maintenance) at Queens Botanical Garden.

In addition, we can offer resume guidance, an interview skills workshop, and assistance with educational and career goals.

This position is 15-20 hours per week.
