  Intellectual Property (IPS) Counsel (Briarcliff Manor, NY)
Your challenge:
 
We challenge you to lend your experience and knowledge to help enforce Philips IP globally.
 
Your responsibilities:
 
Participate in all phases of Intellectual Property licensing projects:
 

  • Investigate instances of third party patent infringement.

  • Identify and prepare business cases to identify potential licensees.

  • Maintain a thorough up-to-date knowledge of IP law and related legal fields, have the ability to conduct effective legal research and have a strong overview and understanding of the general business activity, the related RD activities and the competitiveness of the business environment he/she is involved in.

  • Advise non-legal representatives sitting on Standards committees with regard to licensing statements which are often required.

  • Participate in various risk assessments regarding introduction of new features/products.

  • Prepare infringement and validity analysis.
     

Your team:
 
Philips Intellectual Property and Standards is the international Intellectual Property (IP) organization of the worldwide Royal Philips Electronics Corporation. As such, Philips IPS manages all IP matters for Philips including the value capture and enforcement including infringement detection and licensing; as well as counseling and litigation for the corporation with respect to allegations of patent infringement.
 
We are located on a 100-acre campus overlooking the Hudson River, about an hour north of New York City.
 
We are looking for:
 

  • Undergraduate degree (graduate degree preferred) in Electronics or Physics

  • A JD or LLB in Law from an accredited Law School

  • Admission to practice law in at least one state in the US

  • IP experience, with a strong interest in licensing and a technical understanding of semiconductors, physics and/or solid state lighting; business and negotiation experience

  • Ability to understand patent claims and be able to create and understand claim charts and infringement studies

  • Admission to the USPTO is a plus
