Your Challenge:


Be a Research Project Manager and a Scientist.  As Research Project Manager, you will act as the Philips Oral Healthcare/Consumer Dental Scientific Affairs (DSA) representative towards external collaborators in a variety of research areas in oral health and quality of life, including behavioral research, cognitive physiology and clinical methodology.  As Scientist, be involved in research for oral healthcare products with an emphasis in initiating, directing, and executing research. 
 


Your Responsibilities:
Research Project Management:


Manage predominantly external research projects in oral health and well-being within operational constraints (of time and budget) of the clinic.


Assure clinical/scientific input to method and product development and substantiation of results.


Maintain communication and alignment regarding project contract, objectives, plans and progress with collaborators.


Align between DSA and external collaborators on project goals.


Actively participate in the creation of the project plan.


Compile all relevant measures of the final research.


Evaluate data against original specification.


Assess feasibility of methodology, validity of results, potential for product claims.

Test Method Development and Innovation:


Organize the development of new behavioral, physiological, physical and clinical methods and procedures to test prototype/product attributes.  


Develop and execute research plans and studies using established scientific methods and protocols (e.g. experiential research, oral health-related quality of life, in vivo oral abrasion studies).


Develop, adapt and validate test methods and procedures.


Manage outsourced test development and research collaborations. Collaborate and coordinate with other groups (internal and external) to ensure that research is executed on time and budget.


Write and present technical reports, scientific abstracts and publications, case studies, and critiques to appropriately document research.


Evaluate external test sites for study / test capabilities.

Function Verification:
Contribute to the design, conduct and scientific merit of clinical and laboratory studies evaluating the in vivo and in vitro performance of products where clinical testing is required. Organize (and execute) laboratory and clinical testing in support of clinical department functions.


Initiate (and perform, if applicable) function development and verification tests for ID projects.


Organize, analyze and interpret data in consultation with CSA Support Core (statisticians).


Give input and feedback to ID.


Contribute to Design of Experiments (DOE) protocol development.


Support regulatory activities (e.g. FDA positioning, 510k).

Gather and Disseminate Oral Healthcare Insight:
Keeping abreast and well informed on new developments and trends in oral healthcare to maintain knowledge of state-of-the-art principals and theories, and identify possible applications for research methods and product innovation.  


Summarize and disseminate insights and knowledge from literature research, attended scientific meetings and technology scouting activities.


Understand oral health/wellness, physiology and behavioral research (experiential research, quality of life).


Actively scout literature; attend scientific meetings; track competitor intelligence.
Contribute to the definition of the Clinical Roadmap Program
Planning of research projects (timing, content, and budget).

Support DSA Operation:
Comply with GLP (good laboratory practices), GCP (good clinical practices) and QA (quality assurance) requirements. 
Maintain document control (incl. related publications).


Keep knowledge on regulations up to date.


Participate in Company wide and department training activities relevant to DSA.
Comply with federal regulations.

Marketing Support:
Support in Public Relations: review marketing materials for accuracy of scientific content.

Qualifications:


PhD (or equivalent) in behavioral science (or cognitive or psychosocial science with appropriate research experience), and 3+ additional years of experience in working in a research environment.       


Expert knowledge of scientific principles, research methods and protocols and their application to the life sciences.  


Expert knowledge in applied and clinical behavioral research, preferably in oral health research. Knowledge in oral physiology, psychophysiology, cognitive and/or sensorial research desirable.


Excellent organizational and (research) project management skills. Good external relations management.


Excellent communication and writing skills. Influential and negotiation skills.


Strong interpersonal skills; works well in a dynamic and cross-disciplinary environment; team player.
Experienced in complying with GLP/GCP/QA.  


Critical and scientific attitude and approach. Careful attention to detail. 


Basic understanding of consumer product research and development.
