Description
The Distribution Center Operations Manager is responsible for all facets of Whole Good DC operations including but not limited to standard work documentation and implementation, staffing levels, facility layout, process management, tooling requisition, financial reporting quality. This leadership position will require collaboration with other supply leaders throughout the Polaris enterprise, specifically manufacturing, product groups and the transportation management team. This leader will be expected to leverage strong performance monitoring, decision making and continuous improvement skills to minimize DC expenses and maximize delivery quality while maintaining a high level of customer service standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan whole good distribution center activities toward the accomplishment of corporate objectives
- Identify and recommend capital investment plans
- Be familiar with new technologies in the industry and recommend application to DC operations
- Maintain compliance with government regulations, company policy, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices
- Oversee standardization of work instructions and work station layout in all whole good distribution centers
- Set and report KPI for each DC to track performance and identify improvement opportunities including but not limited to units received, units shipped, inbound damage reporting, time studies, units produced by type, man minutes per model and others as identified
- Define and deliver annual cost down initiatives
- Direct continuous improvement/lean opportunities
- Manage standard processes for returning reusable dunnage for finished goods crates
- Communicate quality issues to manufacturing plants and drive elimination of issues due to manufacturing and packaging activities.
- Negotiate lease rates where applicable
- Negotiate pricing with 3rd party DC operations companies where applicable
- Open new distribution center operations where applicable
- Proactively identify capacity and plan for optimal staffing to handle necessary volume fluctuations at distribution centers
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment for employees
- Review and benchmark companies in non-competing industries to gain strategic insight
- Assists in the development of long range goals and objectives
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, supply chain management or similar with 5+ years industry related experience
- Strategic vision and ability to properly evaluate tradeoffs in managing distribution centers
- Proven track record of decision making, cost reduction, problem solving and process improvement
- Analytical curiosity to drive operational improvements
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a common goal
- Ability to analyze data for decision making
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
- 50% travel to North American Distribution Centers
