DescriptionSeeking enthusiastic Communications Intern with a desire to gain public relations and marketing skills while helping people, through an internationally syndicated radio show. Under the supervision of the Director of Communications and the Director of New Media, the Communications Intern provides assistance in writing press releases, media outreach, and general communications tasks as well as booking celebrities, sports figures, rock stars, etc. and guests on the radio show, working on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, and our blog, and pitching story ideas to media outlets. We are seeking someone who is not afraid of the phones, and who is not meek. This position is not for the timid and not for someone who shirks from making calls, sending e-mails, etc. in this face-paced environment.
Specific responsibilities include: Compiling and maintaining a comprehensive media list for various markets in the NY metropolitan area, and nationwide Seeking out and collecting news stories about substance abuse and recovery, the Veterans and Armed Forces, and stories of inspiration and transformation Getting review copies of books, magazines, etc. pertinent to show topics Writing, proofreading and scheduling press releases for dissemination; follow up with relevant media Providing website support by updating events on the radio stations website, Facebook, Twitter, Linked-in, etc. accounts, which will include updating content, publishing news stories and other tasks as needed Booking guest speakers, celebrity speakers, sports figures, authors, experts, etc. on the radio show Maintaining and administrating social networking site Providing administrative, graphics, and production support for marketing materials Searching for online articles and content containing information related to substance abuse, recovery, mental health, and stories of inspiration from people who have overcome adversity in their lives Collaborating with staff on creative new directions and venues for marketing and communications Assisting with outreach or information distribution to individuals listening to the radio show Assist in writing the weekly Newsletter Assisting with other event-related details as needed Additional qualifications for this position: Strong writing and general communication skills, media outreach experience a plus Cannot be timid when contacting media outlets; must be comfortable on the phones, and not afraid of rejection Proficient in google and internet searches Team player with attention to detail Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of social media Apply on Company Website |
