Minimum Skills/Requirements

High school diploma/GED required. Must have any one of the following coding certifications at time of hire: CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC-A, CPC-H-A, CPC-H or CPC. One to three years experience as a coder.

Primary Job Functions

•Assigns Code numbers to diagnosis and procedures for Out-patient, physicians, and Presbyterian Medical Group using ICDcm codes and CPT-4 codes.

•Abstracts medical records of all patient types.

•Screens medical records using pre-established criteria.

•Functions as team leader in absence of Director.

•Assists in other departmental functions as requested by the Director Administrator.

•Answers phone within three rings to assure good customer relations.

•Retrieves records as requested by Directors.

•Participates in cross training.

•Participates in Performance Improvement.

•Performs other functions as required.
