Minimum Skills/Requirements

Must be currently enrolled in a State approved Program of Nursing. Must be eligible for graduation within one year of an ADN program, or be classified as a J-II in a BSN program. Receives on-the-job training prior to performing primary functions. .

Primary Job Functions

Assist in implementing direct daily care of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Observe and record daily nursing care of patients. Check and record patient vital signs, intake and output and other pertinent data. Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in the patient record.

• Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, and walking patients

• Implements NON-DRUG treatment orders, such as bed baths, transfers, obtaining specimens, and setting up traction. Discontinues IV’s, performs suctioning and witnesses consent forms.

• Performs wound care and dressing changes. Prepares patients for surgery. Assists with sterile procedures. Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed nurse.

• Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes. Performs enemas and disimpactions.

• Performs bedside testing such as oximetry, EKG, Glucometery, urinalysis and other tests.

• Operates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such as, cardiac and fetal heart monitoring).

• Assist with stocking carts, cleaning the dirty utility room, answering telephones and runs errands as requested.

• Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities identified in this description as well as that of a Unit Secretary if required.

• Upon completion of competencies, performs additional unit specific tasks upon delegation by, and under the direction of , a Registered Nurse.

• Performs other functions as required.
