Business Overview: 
Asset and Liability Management (ALM) is responsible for the construction of investment portfolios and asset and liability management for Prudential's domestic business operations.

Working in small teams, ALM analysts support each of our four functional areas while also interacting with individuals at all levels in the organization.  The analyst will provide critical, hands-on support in the design and implementation of investment strategies.
 
Description: 
Responsibilities, depending on the functional area, will include:
 
  • Analyzing characteristics of insurance products in support of liability driven portfolio Strategic Asset Allocations.

  • Partnering with Actuarial, Product Pricing, Product Development, Treasurers and Investment Risk to construct and monitor portfolio Investment Policy Statements

  • Assessing portfolio investment performance and analyzing the drivers of results.

  • Evaluating the characteristics of insurance or other liabilities in support of investment policy development.

  • Evaluating and executing alternative investments.

  • Assisting in the development of market derivative strategies.

  • Investigating trends or developments in various industries and sectors of the U.S. economy.

  • Evaluating and executing highly structured transactions.

  • Investigating trends in interest rates across borrowing sectors and across countries.


This is typically a 3 year program. Whether you choose to further your education in business school or move into another area of the financial services industry, the analyst position provides experience, learning opportunities, and contacts that will prove invaluable in your future endeavors.

The ideal candidate is motivated, confident, enjoys being challenged and works well individually and in a team-based environment. Requirements also include:
  •  May/June 2012 Graduate (BA/BS Degree).
  • A degree in a highly quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, business, engineering, economics, computer science, finance or a similar quantitative subject area.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Power Point with the ability to develop complex data models.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and negotiating skills.
  • Excellent structured problem solving and the ability to explain results (both oral and written).
  • Ability to comfortably interact with internal and external counterparties.
  • Strong mathematics background.
  • Familiarity with external equity/credit markets and/or investment knowledge is helpful but not required.
