Business Overview:   Prudential Investment Management (PIM) is one of the largest investment managers in the U.S. with $637 billion of assets under management.  Prudential Fixed Income (PFI) is the public fixed income business within PIM.  PFI has over $332 billion of assets under management which include government securities, mortgages, corporate and high yield bonds, bank loans and emerging market securities.  PFI manages investments for a wide variety of clients, including public and corporate pension funds, institutional investors, retail investors and Prudential's general account.
 
Description:  The Portfolio Analyst role in PFI provides investment analysis to key internal constituents as well as current and prospective clients.  The Portfolio Analyst will cover a specific mandate such as Investment Grade Corporates, Emerging Markets, High Yield or Global Rates and develop expert knowledge of the portfolio management strategies, benchmarks and common trading practices used to execute the strategy.  The Portfolio Analyst may also be responsible for training and supervising a more junior analyst.  The analyst works with risk managers, portfolio managers, traders, client service representatives and the sales and marketing team to analyze performance data, monitor portfolio positioning and risk exposures, collect and prepare market data and model benchmarks.   The Portfolio Analyst is an expert on in the firm's performance attribution and risk management framework and will prepare and analyze performance reports for senior investment personnel and clients.   The Analyst will often be required to work with complex financial data including cash flow valuations and will be required to model the impact to risk measures of potential transactions. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly performance attribution and analysis.  Communicate results to senior management, traders, portfolio managers and clients. 

  • Monitor portfolio positioning on a daily basis with respect to various interest rate, currency and credit risk exposures. 

  • Work with peers across mandates to ensure processes and procedures are applied consistently. Strive to build and maintain a world class Portfolio Analysis organization within PFI. 

  • Work with constituents throughout the organization to ensure that the Portfolio Analysis Group, Portfolio Management and Risk Management groups have the reporting and technology required to effectively manage client assets.      

  • Prepare relative Value reporting within and across sectors, assist in the identification of potential trading opportunities. 

  • Partner with client services and marketing in new business development. 

  • Recommend and implement appropriate benchmarks based on client guidelines, objectives and risk tolerance.  Compare and contrast various benchmarks and their risk and positioning profiles.     

  • Model and monitor the completeness and accuracy of security level data to ensure the highest quality data is input to the firm's models and analytic calculations. 

 

  • Three to seven years experience in Fixed Income Investments and a demonstrated passion for Fixed Income Analytics.
  • Bachelor's degree with concentration(s) in Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or Engineering
  • MBA, CFA or other applicable masters level work such as Statistics or Quantitative Finance.
  • Strong quantitative skills (project experience involving data analysis a plus)
  • Extensive experience with MS Excel and other technical data tools.   
  • Demonstrated skills as a team player, excellent verbal and written communications skills
