Description
The Statutory Finance team, a part of Corporate Controllers, is responsible for internal control and preparation of financial statements in accordance with statutory accounting principles for Prudential's domestic insurance companies.  The group has responsibility for consolidating financial results from the business units, analyzing financial results for presentations with senior management, as well as preparing various regulatory filings for the state insurance departments.  Employees of the group are required to interact and partner effectively with counterparts in the Actuarial Department, Tax Department, Treasurers, Asset and Liability Management (ALM), Risk Management, Internal Audit, External Auditors, and Business Unit Controllers.

The Senior Associate will have statutory reporting responsibilities for several Prudential insurance entities. The Senior Associate's responsibilities include:
  • Review and preparation of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements. This includes the balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, and various investment, insurance, and reinsurance exhibits and schedules.

  • Assisting the external auditors with the completion of annual statutory audited financial statements.

  • Communicate and coordinate statutory accounting and reporting requirements with various business partners.

  • Analyze on-going financial results and prepare quarterly analysis packages for senior management.

  • Research accounting issues and assist in the implementation of new statutory accounting guidance.

  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance of the statutory statement Oracle ledger reports that support most statutory statement pages, exhibits, and schedules.

  • Assist in the production of the annual MD&A.

  • Formally respond to external and internal auditor and regulatory inquiries.

  • Support management reporting needs by responding to various ad hoc requests from senior executives and areas outside statutory finance.


  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 Years of experience in accounting, financial reporting or analysis
  • Strong PC skills (particularly Excel)
  • Strong accounting, research and analytical skills
  • GAAP and/or statutory financial reporting experience preferred
  • Ability to effectively work in a fast paced, detail oriented and deadline focused environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal) and partnering skills
  • Ability to work through issues independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to foster and build relationships across multiple businesses
  • Ability to manage priorities and multi-task
  • Ability to work within time constraints
  • Experience with Prudential Financial Systems preferred but not required (Oracle, SQB, FDW)
