Description
Prudential invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of Legal Liaison to support the Group Insurance Life Claims Department. The position provides support to Prudential's Group Life Insurance business, including guidance relating to claim adjudication and implementation of regulatory requirements, serving as a subpoena and/or trial witness, responding to state Department of Insurance inquiries, as well as serving as a liaison between the Group Insurance Life Claims Department and Prudential's Group Insurance Law Department.  The position is located in Roseland, New Jersey, and requires occasional travel. 
 
The successful candidate must be able to quickly become familiar with the Life organization, operations and products, and the attendant legal and regulatory environment within which our business operates. The successful candidate will provide assistance to multiple facets of the Group Life Claims Department, and will be responsible for identifying issues that require referral to the Law Department, as well as actions to be taken in response to legal advice regarding new or amended laws and regulations affecting our business unit.  The position is not within the Law Department and does not involve the practice of law; however the candidate will interface with the Group Insurance Law Department, and provide regular updates to the Group Life Claims Department.
 
Given the complexity and variety of job responsibilities, the candidate must have a strong background identifying legal issues, interacting with lawyers, implementing and assisting others with the implementation of legal advice regarding sophisticated legal matters involving multiple legal disciplines. The work involves regular interaction with state and federal laws with respect to group life insurance products.  The candidate must possess excellent analytical and communication skills. 
 

The ideal candidate will have employment or educational experience requiring familiarity with state insurance laws, knowledge of ERISA, handling insurance regulatory matters and a strong academic record.  The successful candidate will work well with all levels of employees, be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work well under pressure, work independently, take initiative and handle confidential matters.  The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Candidate must demonstrate a high level of skills in written and oral communication and analytical ability.  Superior communication skills are necessary as you will represent Prudential during depositions and court appearances. 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A strong background in insurance law and ERISA is preferred. Knowledge of group life insurance products and operations is preferred. A bachelor's degree, paralegal certificate or Juris Doctorate degree and 2 or more years of experience as a paralegal or attorney are strongly preferred.
