Description
Provides the highest level of administrative supervisory support for a team of Appeal Analysts and/or Appeals Specialists. Oversees the activities of a team of claim managers, utilizing experience in disability appeal management for complex and high risk claim situations prior to litigation. Requires superior communication skills to independently assist internal and external customers with items including, but not limited to, problem resolution, education, application of complicated plan provisions. Responsible for staffing, training and supervising the activities of a disability appeals unit. Supervises employees and provides guidance to subordinates regarding general claim policy, contracts and terminology. Provides authority over problematic cases, but otherwise extends settlement authority to subordinates. Communicates with clients, state insurance departments and other internal and external areas. Manages settlement opportunities within authority, providing guidance to staff for negotiations. May represent company in most complex mediations or depositions during litigation process. Incumbent may participate in finalist meetings and site visits for large prospective and in force customers. Independently interacts with internal customers including, but not limited to, account executives, account managers, underwriting, contracts, case installation, PDR and the tax team. May report to Claim Manager or Director.

  • Prior experience with disability claims.
  • Strong communication and time management skills required.
  • Proficiency in PC-based programs such as Word and Excel, as well as DCMS.
  • Strong mathematical, problem solving, decision making & analytical skills are desired.

  • Customer Service skills.
  • Supervisory experience a plus, but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills a must
  • Understanding of STD/LTD product lines with experience of at least 2 years in claims preferred
  • Experience with Life Waiver of Premium product a plus.
