Description
The incumbent in this position evaluates and analyzes emerging accounting and reporting issues from the FASB, EITF, SEC, AICPA, NAIC, and other standard setters. After analysis, the incumbent will direct the implementation of new accounting standards executed by the impacted Business Units. This position participates in the standard setting process through authoring of comment letters to standard setters. The incumbent will analyze complex transactions and provide accounting guidance to the Business Units.
 
Incumbent may analyze issues related to the investment portfolio of the General Account (domestic and international) as well as the Company's Asset Management business.   Specifically, the individual may be researching issues related to structured financial transactions (including those using SPVs), tax advantaged transactions, consolidation questions regarding proprietary investment funds, impairments/loan loss reserves and embedded derivatives.  
 
This position may also analyze proposed Merger and Acquisition transactions, identifying accounting issues related to intangible assets, provide accounting guidance, and review modeled accounting results of target entity for accounting accuracy. The incumbent will also provide day-to-day accounting guidance to financial reporting areas for .one-off. accounting issues company wide.
 
This position will author company-wide Prudential Financial Accounting Policies for publication in the Accounting Policy Database. Through normal activities, this position will interact with Corporate Controllers Senior Management, Business Unit Controllers, and Business Unit management. The incumbent will possess strong knowledge in several areas of accounting guidance and will facilitate technical training courses in front of large audiences.
 

  • College degree in accounting
  • CPA or foreign equivalent strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.   Ability to explain complex technical issues in a concise and understandable manner to non subject matter experts.
  • Understanding of investments and asset management arrangements.
  • Familiarity with PGAAP including identification/amortization of intangibles and accounting for contingent consideration.
  • Familiarity with accounting rules related to financial instruments (balance sheet presentation, income recognition, sale accounting and impairment), embedded derivatives and structured transactions.
  • Experience resolving and documenting technical issues related to consolidations (both voting and variable interest models).
  • Knowledge of statutory insurance accounting
  • Strong analytical, project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under tight time constraints
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
