Description
The Insurance Law Department is seeking a proactive senior business attorney to provide counsel and advice to various internal business units and management as well as collaborate with other members of the Law Department. The Attorney in this position will negotiate, draft and review documents, agreements, and material in support of the marketing and distribution of Prudential and non-Prudential products and services (life insurance, annuities, mutual funds, managed money products, property and casualty insurance, financial planning and other financial services and products)  by Prudential's career agency sales force as well as non-affiliated distributors of Prudential life insurance products such as general agencies, banks, wirehouses and other financial institutions and intermediaries. Other primary duties and responsibilities include providing legal support with regard to efforts to expand distribution capacity and to develop and implement various programs to increase field force retention and grow revenue. This attorney will also coordinate with the Compliance Department and Risk Management Department to provide legal analysis and advice in connection with the development of business and supervisory procedures, appropriate mitigation measures, the resolution of potential compliance issues and the handling of regulatory examinations and inquiries. This attorney will also review proposed legislation and regulation and provide comments or language in order to obtain any necessary clarifications or exemptions. In carrying out these responsibilities, the attorney will assist Government Affairs and will work closely with other Business Unit and Corporate lawyers, Business and Compliance associates.
 
The attorney should exhibit solid supervisory and project management skills and knowledge of and meaningful/relevant experience with state insurance laws and regulations, broker dealer regulation and federal securities laws and the pertinent regulators.
 

  • Candidate must have a JD, admitted to practice law in New Jersey (or must be obtained within 12 months) or obtain the New Jersey In-House Counsel License within 18 months.
  • Candidate must have a minimum of eight (8) years relevant law firm, regulatory or insurance company law department experience and substantial expertise in state insurance law and regulation, federal securities laws, FINRA rules and other laws and regulations that apply to the distribution of a wide range of financial services products and services, and developing laws and regulations such as Dodd-Frank , privacy and others.
  • Candidate must have a solid knowledge of all life insurance products, including variable products, as well as other products such as but not limited to annuities, mutual funds, managed money products and 529 Plans.
  • Candidate must have a solid academic background, have the capacity to work independently as well as be an effective team member. The candidate must have excellent research, analytical, practical problem solving and written and oral communication and leadership skills.
  • Candidate should also have experience interacting with regulatory bodies.
  • Candidate must exhibit a strong work ethic, be a self-starter and display the ability to work with various levels of personnel, including senior management.
  • Candidate must also be able to work well in an environment where coordination and teamwork with legal and business associates is a top priority.
