The Organization

Resources for Children with Special Needs (RCSN) helps create bright futures for the city's at-risk children and youth by empowering their parents. RCSN parent advocates provide personal, knowledgeable, and compassionate direct assistance to thousands of families each year, through workshops, events, and outreach. RCSN trainings and materials are available in Spanish and English, with growing availability in Chinese. We empower parents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to advocate for their children. And we advise and collaborate with educators, mental health professionals, and all levels of government to bring a family perspective to the systems that are designed to help children.

The Opportunity

The RCSN Communications/Design intern will augment their design and marketing skills by helping create materials, and campaigns, from strategy through execution. Working closely with the Director of Communications and Outreach the intern will design outreach materials, create posts and social media campaigns, and perform outreach in major media outlets.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn the hands-on process of conducting outreach to the general public and to thousands of families throughoutNew York City, and to gain a first-hand understanding of how the communications process operates in a vibrant and growing non-profit organization. RCSN is small enough that interns will have contact with all employees from administration to the Executive Director, but large enough to provide meaningful experience in both internal and external modes of communication.
