DescriptionThe program is designed to provide real life work experiences for the intern, as well as support the student by providing the appropriate hours and projects in order to receive college credit. The program will facilitate the achievement of organizational goals and enhance the departments ability to deliver the highest quality of services possible to the citizens of Sampson County, North Carolina.
Interns: -Will work on a variety of assignments which are challenging and will increase their knowledge. -Will gain a realistic perspective of the working world -Will be placed in a position that will provide opportunities for professional growth. The Sampson County Department of Aging offers a wide range of internship opportunities. We have internships with our Family Caregiver, Nutrition, Adult Day Health Care, Senior Centers and In-Home Services; with direct supervision form program director. Many of our interns in the past have worked on such projects as: Helping with fitness programs for aging adults; learned the process of grant writing; and assisted with community outreach. Our interns have also done research for the department that in turn helped them with their own research projects. Samples of this include: Qualitative Analysis of the Stories They Told Us: Caretakers of Alzheimers Patients. All of our interns have had rewarding experiences with our supervisors that have led to them becoming involved in careers in aging with state and local government.
