JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Pharmacist II routinely provides, comprehensive, patient oriented pharmacy services in any or all areas of the department and may participate in clinical rounds and unit based pharmacy services. The Staff Pharmacist II responds to pharmacy consult request and provides direct pharmacy services to nursing, physicians, other allied health professionals and licensed independent practitioners. The Staff Pharmacist II perform effectively and maintain competency in clinical, professional, managerial and operational disciplines and is responsible for fulfilling the departments mission to provide high quality, cost effective, innovative pharmaceutical care to the people we serve in a spiritual and safe environment of caring, compassion, teamwork and personal commitment. The Staff Pharmacist II must be willing and able to provide education to others in and outside the department.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

'Graduation from an Accredited School of Pharmacy
'Must have Bachelor of Science degree or Doctor of Pharmacy degree

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

'Three years of hospital or demonstrated relevant experience required
'Demonstrated ability to provide pharmaceutical care in an independent manner

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

'Valid Texas licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in good standing.
'Must maintain continuing education credits as required by law to maintain professional licensure.
'ACPE Sterile Products/IV Certification required.
'Must maintain CPR certification. May obtain CPR within 30 days of hire.
'Must maintain Preceptor Certification. May obtain within 180 days of hire.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

'Must maintain working knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations specific to pharmacy practice
'Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
'Must demonstrate professional and technical competence in the selection, evaluation, utilization, and distribution of drugs and drug information and apply these to all patient groups, neonate to geriatric.
'Should be familiar with basic principles of rational drug therapy.
'Must have basic skills in supervising and training peers, students, and supportive personnel.
'Must be capable of assuming responsibility for coordinating and supervising the activities of a major pharmacy service area.
'Should have experience with comprehensive pharmacy services including unit-dose drug distribution, intravenous admixture preparation, nutrition support services, and target drug monitoring.
