JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the preparation and distribution of medications and providing pharmaceutical care for the patients of San Jacinto Methodist Hospital. The pharmacy technician receives pharmacy copies of medication orders, delivers medication to the patient care areas, maintains drug inventory in the dispensing areas, maintains appropriate records helps maintain the Pyxis automated dispensing system and processes transactions/charges for services rendered.

The Level III technician may also prepare sterile products and be able to perform any of the duties of a Level II technician.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High school graduate or equivalent with typing and computer skills. Satisfactory completion of the SJMH Pharmacy Technician training program.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The Pharmacy Technician Level III must have obtained 40 hours of structured training in IV Admixtures and passed the SJMH Process validation for their IV skills. The course may be ACPE accredited taken elsewhere or completed at SJMH.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

Successfully completed and maintains National Certification for Pharmacy Technicians, preferred.
Must maintain continuing education credits to maintain certification. Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Is competent in all aspects of pharmaceutical care for geriatric, pediatric, and adult patients.
