Description:
Provides all aspects of Respiratory Care to patients assigned in areas according to the hospital and department guidelines, policies, and procedures.

1.Perform routine Respiratory Care in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures including: (EF)
a.Illustrate proper medication usage, dosage, and effects for all patient populations.
b.Administer and monitor treatment modalities and gas therapy.
c.Assess each patient's cardiopulmonary status.
d.Cleaning, disinfecting and restocking all respiratory supplies and equipment.
2.Accurately documents all patient care and respiratory related activities in the hospital computer system and adheres to other hospital required documentation requirements. (EF)
3.Performs advanced respiratory care procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures including: (EF)
a.Implements, monitors and evaluates ventilatory support.
b.Evaluates/Assesses patients and recommends therapeutic interventions.
c.Completes specific training on new procedures with documented proficiency.
d.Arterial blood gas puncture, analysis and interpretation of results on pediatrics > two years of age and all other age groups.
4.Advances clinical knowledge as demonstrated by participation in optional education opportunities, attendance at all required in-services; all other scheduled departmental in-services and remains current on recent medical publications.
5.Maintains professionalism as demonstrated by:
a.Adherence to the Time and Attendance Policy
b.Adherence to the institutional dress code
c.Maintenance of current licensure and CPR requirements.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an AMA approved Respiratory Care program or its equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One-year experience preferred. Five years ICU experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), RRT eligible candidates that have completed the entry portion of the exam and are scheduled to complete the exam may be conditionally hired, Current certification from the Texas Department of Health as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP), Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Basic computer skills required. Must be knowledgeable in the current practices of Respiratory Care including protocol management. Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally with other members of the health care team. Must have the ability to build and sustain interpersonal relationships and provide friendly customer service.
