Description The core function of the Corporate Planning organization is to advise the company's management and guide other departments within the company on energy markets and outlooks, economic evaluations, oil pricing, macroeconomic outlook, and international energy policies and regulations, besides assisting in business planning and strategy formulation. Corporate Planning serves as the center of expertise on the application of economic principles and assumptions to business issues throughout the company.

Corporate Planning is looking to appoint a Sr. Downstream Strategist – Chemicals to serve as the Company's foremost expert in strategic and long-range planning for the chemicals business. Acts as the 'Corporate Advisor' for the chemicals business related issues; oversees the development of the chemicals business's long-term capital/resource allocation, and overcoming key organizational hurdles and recommends changes in organizational structure.

Independently initiates research on wide-ranging topics that look into long-term scenarios that might impact the Company's competitive advantage. Prepares research, special studies and analyses as required. Presents lectures, both inside and outside the Company, on subjects related to the chemicals business.
Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, Financial Management or closely related specialty. Graduate degree is highly desirable.

Demonstrated steady professional competence progression.

This role requires at least 15 years of experience in the chemicals business with a global energy think tank/consulting firm and/or a major chemicals/petrochemicals company; of which at least 5 years were involved in strategic planning.

Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities Incumbent performs alone, directs or coordinates the following activities:

Provides corporate advice and guidance to the CEO and members of Corporate Management on the development of the Company's strategic goals and plans for the chemicals business.

Directs a group of strategists and professionals responsible for articulating and crafting the chemicals business section of the Company's Strategic Document, which includes strategic analysis, strategic direction and the 10-year Investment Plan.

Collaborates with business lines and the Corporate Planning Business Analysis Department to validate/confirm results of individual's group independent research on long-term global trends and energy industry evolution, with a view to determining the impact upon the company and the Kingdom's development.

Reviews the Company's Operating Plan (OP) before approval by the Management Committee (MC) to ensure that the OP is in alignment with the Company's Strategic Document, specifically the chemicals business strategies.

Independently initiates research on wide-ranging topics that look into long-term scenarios that might impact the Company's competitive advantage in the chemicals business.

Prepares research and special studies and analyses as required, for the Strategic Council and other Corporate Committees.

Represents the Company in conferences and seminars. Prepares and presents lectures, both inside and outside the Company, on subjects related to the chemicals business that covers issues such as 'long-term global chemicals industry trends,' and 'impact of technological breakthroughs.'

As required, when significant events occur that can adversely affect the chemicals business long-term goals, informs the Business Line and Strategic Council of required courses of action to mitigate losses or maximize profits.

Inspires and leads a group or groups of strategists and professionals responsible for articulating the overall chemicals business strategy for the Company.

Builds strong relationship with think tanks and industry experts and keeps abreast of key developments — in the chemicals business and other arenas — that could impact the Saudi Aramco's competitive performance. This includes developments in technology, geopolitics, regulations, Saudi Government plans, and the chemicals industry in general.

Overcomes key organizational hurdles and recommends changes in organizational structure to facilitate implementation of changes in the long-term chemicals strategy.
