Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Senior Java Developer for a contract assignment with one of our premier financial clients in New York, NY.
  One of SGAs major investment banking clients is looking for Senior Java Developers for long-term consulting roles to work in their Currencies (Foreign Exchange) Technology team.       Currencies Technology supports the business goals of the Currencies business for all technology delivery, having direct application development responsibility for key business systems and an overall end-to-end remit for systems implementation across the Currencies business.   The group is divided into small, highly motivated, agile teams.  Software deliveries are typically frequent and the team members are expected to be multi-disciplined and flexible in their approach, working in all areas of the solution space. A primary focus for the Currencies Technology team is the in-progress Strategic Re-Engineering Programme (SRP).  SRP is an Investment Banking cross-business initiative focused on streamlining both Business and Technology.  Currently, a significant portion of the Investment Banks technology foundation is a portfolio of one-off systems and heritage platforms from multiple mergers.  The SRP will create a best-in-class environment that will be flexible, decrease development time, and allow the IB to respond to the need for change.   The application is a mission critical, global, 24-hr component of the SRP initiative and is a multi-faceted enterprise platform that provides prime record facilities across a number of lines of business including Foreign Exchange Cash and Options, Global Emerging Markets, and Bullion.  The team consists of 19 people based in New York, Houston, London, and Mumbai.   As a Senior Developer within the team the successful candidate will:
  • Work with front and middle office teams and other technology groups to design, build, and deliver excellent solutions to the Global Foreign Exchange business
  • Be a voice of knowledge and experience in their areas of expertise.
  • Be a productive, independent, self-motivated Senior Java developer. 
  • Provide third-line technical support for the application
  • Manage workload, working confidently and independently with an appreciation of the key business drivers for the platform
  • Take ownership of open issues seeing them through to conclusion
  • Develop mostly in Java with some Python
  • follow established paradigms for development
    Key Skills: Were looking for smart developers with strong computer science fundamentals and a track record of delivery.  The successful candidate must demonstrate all of the following skills:
  • Extensive experience with software architecture and senior development skills in a high pressure, time critical environment.
  • Extensive and in-depth experience with Java
  • Strong experience in developing highly multithreaded highly scalable, concurrent applications
  • Extensive experience of a relational database.
  • Extensive experience of multi-tier architectures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple streams of work and to organise self (and others) to deliver in a timely fashion.
  • In-depth understanding of performance tuning, message integrity and security related to real-time applications.
  • Ability to provide mission critical 3rd level production support

  Qualifications (not mandatory):
  • A good degree in Computer Science, Maths or other related subject or equivalent qualification
