Description

The Assistant General Counsel (AGC) Sacramento-Sierra Region position assists the Vice President & General Counsel, other more senior attorneys, and members of Sutter Health / Affiliate management by providing legal advice and counsel (including conducting or overseeing legal research, identifying new or emerging areas of risk, etc.), on a range of topics within their general practice areas.


 


The AGC, Regional Operations is required to be an effective and influential leader in providing legal services to a broad range of health care clients including hospitals and medical foundations or physician organizations. The incumbent will serve as a senior member of a team providing legal services to a large region of an integrated health care delivery system. Must possess a minimum of 6 years and preferably 10 years of extensive experience with physician compensation methodologies and related fair market value analyses, corporate governance, non-profit tax issues, fraud and abuse (Stark, Anti-kickback and False Claims Act) and a working knowledge of issues involving Medicare and Medicaid. Experience with health care business transactions including joint ventures, practice acquisitions or corporate affiliations and in-house counsel experience are highly desirable. Admission to the California Bar is strongly preferred.



Education:     

A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.

 

Licensure:     

Must be a member in good standing with a state bar.

A member in good standing with the State Bar of California is highly desired or a willingness to take the California bar examination within a year of employment.

 

Experience:   

Must have demonstrated at least 6 years of significant law experience, including, primary and independent responsibility for significant transactions.  Must have a working knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects. Extensive knowledge of providing legal advice to health care clients required. Experience of working with or for an integrated healthcare delivery system desired.

    

Special Skills:

Candidate must demonstrate effective managerial/leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to translate legal complexities into terms readily understood by management and line personnel. Must be able to demonstrate strong client management and relationship and project management skills as well as the ability to work successfully both independently and within a team.

  

Other:

The Assistant General Counsel is not allowed a private law practice with the exception of pro bono activities performed outside the scope of this position.
