POSITION SUMMARY


 


The Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist oversees the daily operations of Cardiology services and is responsible for monitoring the quality control programs under the direction of the Cardiopulmonary Services Manager. Performs routine diagnostic electrocardiograms for use in the diagnosis of heart disorders. Performs EKG testing, signal-averaged EKG’s, cardiac treadmill stress testing, bicycle testing, nuclear studies, medication-induced stress, vascular testing, ambulatory monitoring studies and ECHO testing. Coordinates the patient management of pre-testing requirements, patient preparation education, patient-physician interaction, data management files and testing results for ECHO, EEG, EKG, and cardiac stress testing.



MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education/ Knowledge, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration

  • BLS Healthcare provider.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers is desired.
  • High School Diploma. Recommend: or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A curriculum in an allied health profession specifically in cardiovascular physiology is desired.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the cardiac system.
  • In-depth knowledge of cardiac testing the associated equipment and quality control processes.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Joint Commission on the Accredidation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of database management as would typically be obtained in (12) months. 

Experience

  • Preferred experience in adult and/or pediatric Echocardiography as is typically obtained in (12) months and additional clinical experience in the acute care environment is desirable.
  • Requires experience operating EKG, Treadmill, and Holter monitor scanning equipment as is typically obtained in approximately two years.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in volatile situations.
  • Must be able to understand, read and write the English language.
  • Requires excellent communication skills to effectively coordinate information to a diverse interdisciplinary healthcare team.
