Description
Sutter Physician Services is looking for an extremely talented and ambitious (Informatics) Reporting Analyst to join their team. The team provides a strategic advantage for our company by providing timely, relevant data analytics and reporting to our affiliates, and internal customers alike.

Position Summary:

Effectively applies both business knowledge and technical expertise to support business initiatives and solve strategic and tactical problems.  Produces data sets, reports, and analytics across a variety of subject matters – including, but not limited to, medical and quality management, P4P Reporting, Disease Management, Quality Outreach, and other data driven initiatives. Utilizes data from EHR systems, Claims, Lab, Professional Billing and other sources to resolve complex healthcare related issues.


 


Translates business requirements into production of both ad hoc and recurring reports and data sets.   Responsible for assuring the accuracy and validity of both source data and results and interpreting results into recommendations.  Presents findings to business customers, both internal and external.  Assures the ongoing high performance level of the department through continued development of technical skills and business knowledge.


 



A.    Education
1.     Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Information Technology, Finance or Healthcare, or equivalent combination of education and pertinent experience in healthcare field.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
1.  Technical Reporting Skills:  Superior proficiency with data extraction and file manipulation using a variety of data sources. Skilled in Microsoft SQL Server, Reporting Services, Excel and/or comparable toolsets. (Oracle, Crystal, etc)
  • Strong skills in SQL – Ability to write complex, efficient queries against large, disparate data sources. Comfortable with use of temporary tables, cross server joins and creation of Stored Procedures, Views, Functions, etc. Knowledge of SSIS is helpful, but not mandatory.
  • Strong Reporting Skills – Skilled in at least one major reports creation package (SSRS, Crystal, Cognos, etc) as a developer, not merely an end-user.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel – Good use of formatting, formulas, Pivot Tables and Charts.
  • Knowledge of IDX and/or Epic software platforms is desirable.
2.  Analytics:  Ability to understand business problems, assess relevant variables that impact the issue, recognize relevant patterns in data, and provide solutions and information related to the business requirements.
  • Demonstrates superior and insightful analytical aptitude; immediately recognizes aberrations in complex data sets based on appropriate reference sources and can establish root causes.
  • Elaborates on findings for customers, and provides relevant insights, alternatives, and suggestions.
  • Output is produced with consistent quality and accuracy – data is reasonable and explainable.
  • Routinely builds “check totals” into work to ensure that results are as expected.
  • Analytics reflect the ability to put oneself in the customer’s shoes to interpret appropriate next steps and/or decisions.
 
3. Business Knowledge:  Familiarity with the health care industry is applied appropriately to daily work activities:
  • Working knowledge of managed care.
  • Experience with Procedure Codes (CPT) and Diagnosis Codes (ICD) is helpful.
  • Experience with ‘Episode of Care’ reporting is desirable.
  • Understanding of the roles and activities of key Departments throughout the company.
  • Ability to prioritize workload appropriately.
  • Anticipates needed changes to existing reports based on changes in business.
  • Keeps abreast of emerging business trends and can relate them to internal business requirements and strategies (e.g., Accountable Care Orgs.)
 
4.  Training and Documentation:  In support of data-related responsibilities, produces documentation of work produced and educates co-workers and management on work processes and output for “cross-training” purposes.
  • Documentation of results and findings for delivery to the business customer consistently incorporates additional information such as benchmarks, relevant reference data, and statistical measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate rigorous documentation of initiatives or projects to be used for submission to external entities for publication or award consideration
  • Proactively trains others effectively on projects and subjects where they have demonstrated strength
  • Proactively trains others effectively on technical skills where they have demonstrated strength
