Primary Purpose:

The Staff Engineer is responsible for maintaining the physical structure and associated equipment of the hospital in good repair. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Maintaining and repairing HVAC controls and associated equipment to maximize efficiency levels in all environmentally controlled areas
  • Performing urgent corrective, routine, and requisitioned repairs of electrical mechanical and plumbing systems as required
  • Maintaining electrical wiring and emergency generator systems
  • Performing preventative maintenance duties to all physical structures of the hospital and complying with all building safety codes
  • Replacing, installing, repairing, and testing electrical circuits, equipment, appliances, and lighting systems
  • Maintaining routine records of all inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs performed


Education:
  • High school education or equivalent required
  • Appropriate trade / technical/ vocational training is essential

Knowledge: 

  • Journeyman level knowledge of boilers, H.V.A.C. electrical, plumbing, all mechanical equipment and Medical Center Safety Policy and Procedures required
Skills:  
  • Ability to work well with others
Physical:
  • May be required to lift weight and carry equipment
  • May be exposed to disagreeable environmental conditions, including dirt, noise, heights, cramped working space and areas / tasks where caution must be excised to insure safety
  • Physical requirements may be met with the aid of mechanical devices
  • They are those minimally necessary for the safe completion of duties
  • They are not intend to discriminate against handicapped persons, only to insure safe working conditions for all persons
  • must be fully mobile on steps, ladders, etc
  • Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms (or mechanical substitutes) to safely operate hand and power tools, gauges, valves, etc.
  • Able to bend, stoop and lift 100 pounds objects
