Job Description

Position Summary

Trouble-shoot and recover break down situations on automated production equipment including automated welding machines, robotic welding cells, automated assembly lines and other equipment processes available on the floor. Implement modifications on existing machines to achieve better quality and productivity. Provide technical support for maintenance personnel (electricians, millwrights) to solve issues with production equipment. Adjust robot welding path. Perform production coverage on scheduled shift basis.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Trouble-shoot automated production equipment using control system components or programming software installed on portable PCs
  • Maintain weld integrity using mig, spot, plasma and laser processes
  • Trouble-shoot, train and supervise the repair or installation of new equipment processes
  • Assist in the interpretation, preparation or modification of technical drawings or instructions
  • Provide support for operation-related activities such as quality assurance, production control and maintenance
  • Assist necessary modifications for machine control program to achieve quality and productivity goals requested by production management or process (quality) engineering
  • Keep and restore lost or damaged documents of existing or new equipment processes in good working order (Electrical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic Drawings, and Manuals)
  • Performs regular backup of control programs (PLC, Robots, and PC’s) on automated production equipment
  • Report any serious issues noticed on new or existing equipment processes to Automation engineer or Production superintendent
  • Comply with requirements of the necessary quality standards (QS9000/ISO/TS16949/ISO 14001) to ensure re-certification
  • Actively participate in ongoing continual improvement activities and initiatives

 


Required Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Computer literacy (Windows, Networking, word processing, electronic spreadsheets)
  • Electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, some mechanical drawings reading
  • Ability to use measuring devices (multi-meter, oscilloscope)

Required Experience
  • Technician or technologist diploma (electrical) from College
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in troubleshooting of automated equipment with PLC, Robot, PCs, i.e ABB, Fanuc, Motoman, Kuka, Allen Bradley
