Salary Grade: 10 Position Summary Overview:
Assess nutritional needs of patients, develop and implement nutritional care plans and communicate information in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-18 years).

Responsibilities:
Identify patients in need of nutrition intervention through rounds, clinic schedule or daily/team census reports; provide age-appropriate assessment of patients identified at nutrition risk; calculate appropriate nutrition regimes to meet specific patient needs for children and adults, both inpatient and outpatient; adapt nutrition plan to specific economic, social, cultural and age-appropriate needs of patients; assess and re-assess response to therapy and adjust plan. Assess learning needs and readiness to learn of patients and families; provide individualized age-appropriate nutrition information to patients and family, ensure comprehension and re-educate as needed; reassess and modify nutrition education plan to meet special needs of patients; develop and review nutrition education materials for patients and families in coordination with patient education and other nutrition/medical services. Participate in discharge planning or patient care/case conferences; follow-up on recommendations and care plans with team; coordinate and transition care from inpatient to outpatient or outpatient to inpatient services; participate and develop pertinent nutrition related programs for assigned clinics/units; coordinate nutritional care of patients from private physicians. Participate in, interpret and use research to enhance clinical practice.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and pediatrics required. The ability to observe deficiencies and formulate actions to correct the situation, make assessments and recommendations, educate others on nutritional needs and use word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition programs on a computer.

Education, Experience and Licensure:
Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or related field and completion of ADA approved clinical program, RD with the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and LD in Texas required. One (1) year clinical experience, pediatrics preferred. Membership in the ADA is highly encouraged. About Texas Children's Texas Children's Hospital Pavilion for Women
