Salary Grade: 16 Position Summary Overview:
To practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally appropriate and age appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic condition, including independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment and procedures. As an advanced practice nurse, the NP is involved in education, consultation, research, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. All duties are performed in a manner developmentally appropriate to the ages of patients served.

Knowledge:
Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a broad knowledge of nursing functions and medical terminology, and a broad knowledge of adult and child learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching.

Skills:
Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily advanced nursing care of children, the ability to work effectively with others, and the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities.

Formal Education and Experience:
The formal education and experience required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is a Texas Licensed Registered Nurse, a Master¿s degree in Nursing, National Nurse Practitioner (NP) Certification, registration to practice as an NP in the State of Texas, and 3years pediatric nursing experience consistent with assigned unit.

Incumbent must complete specialty competencies during orientation and critical competencies annually.
