Job Title: Ophthalmic Tech, Certified (Main Campus) Job ID: 126651 Medical Center, Houston, TX Location: Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular Position Summary Overview: Provide ophthalmic technical support in the patient care area. Responsibilities: Perform visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, exophthalmometry, Amsler grid, Schirmer test, pupil evaluation, anterior chamber depth assessment, stereo testing, ocular motility on extraocular muscle actions, strabismus, amblyopia and assessment methods on children and adults. Perform basic instrument maintenance on ophthalmoscopes, retinoscopes, lensometers, perimeters, tangent screen, phoropter/trial frames, slit lamps, keratometers, muscle light, surgical instruments. Obtain ophthalmic history from patient or parent, including but not limited to, presenting complaint, past ocular history, family history, systemic illness, medications, allergies and drug reactions, review of systems, social history, developmental history. Participate in quality improvement activities. Assist physician in examining ROP infants in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Coordinate appointments, compile list and track active ROP infants. Assist in patient education. Knowledge Skills: Knowledge of ophthalmic technology, equipment, supplies and ophthalmic terminology. Ability to obtain medical history and perform technical eye exams. Education, Experience and Licensure: High school diploma, JCAHPO certification and a minimum two (2) years experience in an ophthalmology or optometry office required.
