Salary Grade: 11 Position Summary Overview:
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care; educate patients and families ranging from neonate to adult; deliver concierge level service to all patients and families.

Responsibilities:
Collect data from patient, family, lab and other medical reports; complete nursing assessment of the patient/family (biological, psychological, age appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural and spiritual); coordinate, analyze and synthesize assessment information; determine patient needs and priorities for care; document assessment, including patient needs or other clinical judgments. Develop a plan of care based upon the nursing assessment; include the coordination of other members of the health care team and discharge planning; determine which standard of care and practice apply to the patient; prioritize patient care based on new information; involve family or significant individuals in planning activities; manage time and resources for atypical patient assignment; oversee delegation of specifics of care plan to LVN and unlicensed personnel; supervise non-RNs and less experienced RNs through patient rounds, verbal interactions and review of documentation. Implement plan of care; analyze situations and anticipate problems; perform therapeutic physician or nurse initiated interventions; evaluate and document patient responses to provided care; determine the impact of nursing interventions on the patient's condition and recognize patient's progress; assist in ongoing quality improvement. Educate patients and families.

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of pediatric nursing, pediatric oncology, pediatric hematology and chemotherapy required. The ability to perform generic and unit-based/critical competencies, including specific care of age and diagnosis; demonstrate positive interpersonal skills; utilize time and resources in a cost effective manner; demonstrate flexibility and good verbal and written communication skills; operate basic medical equipment (IMED, IVAC, EKG and Vital Signs Monitor, Scale and additional equipment specific to individual units); read and analyze basic medical equipment; utilize a personal computer and basic office equipment; administer, monitor and document chemotherapy.

Education, Licensure and Experience:
Bachelor's, Associate's or diploma in nursing with Texas RN license. A minimum two (2) years nursing experience preferred.
