Salary Grade:8 Position Summary Overview:
To handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).

Knowledge:
Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is knowledge of a wide variety of instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgical procedures particular to an operating room.

Skills:
Required for completely satisfactory performance in this job is the ability to communicate effectively, be attentive, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. The ability to operate sterilizers, microscopes, and surgical equipment related to surgical specialties, i.e., fiberoptic equipment, electrocautery unit, suction machines, orthopedic tourniquets, air powered equipment, etc. is required. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and commitment to meeting customer needs.

Formal Education and Experience:
The formal education and experience required for completely satisfactory performance in this job are as follows:
- Accredited educational program completion for surgical technologists
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by:
(A) the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor;
(B) the National Center for Competency Testing or its successor; or
(C) another surgical technologist certification program approved by the department
- Training program for surgical technology in the army, navy, air force, marine corps, or coast guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service
- Hired prior to September 1, 2009 without CST or was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility prior to employment can be grandfathered into position

Expanding upon Texas Children's Hospital reputation in fetal and neonatal medicine, the Pavilion for Women, located in the Texas Medical Center offers a full range of maternal, newborn and gynecological services, all in one location.

The Pavilion for Women will advance the hospital's mission with a full range of obstetrical services including but not limited to: evaluation and consultation, preterm birth evaluation, perinatal diagnostic and treatment services, childbirth and parenting education classes and lactation and psychosocial support services.

In addition, expectant mothers have access to a full spectrum of fetal therapies and for infants in need of specialized care, the Pavilion for Women offers both a Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as access to expert pediatric subspecialists representing more than 40 specialty areas, all in one location.

The Pavilion for Women also provides a full range of gynecological care, from annual well care checkups to highly specialized procedures and minimally invasive surgeries.
