Description

Manages overall activities of both inbound and outbound transportation network operations for assigned region to achieve fiscal and customer service goals in accordance with EQ policies, practices and procedures.  

  • Comply with all EQ Management System policies and procedures
  • Manage directly, or through location managers, the internal fleet operations staff, including drivers, mechanics and dispatchers, including hiring, termination, performance management, development, training, and work assignment and follow-up in accordance with HR policies, practices and procedures and company standards
  • Manage internal fleet assets including the approval of all fleet equipment acquisitions, maintenance, and dispositions
  • Determine utilization of internal resources (drivers and fleet equipment) and direct and approve all deployment and assignments of such to meet business demands
  • Based on service and financial analysis, determine, direct and approve optimal transportation strategies including all use of 3rd party carriers, fleet dispatch terminals, and multiple day routes
  • Determine and implement optimal service areas for each location based upon service capabilities and costs.  Initiate transfer of customers and accounts between locations coordinating with Sales, Customer Service and Operations
  • Determine, justify, monitor and approve the set-up of existing and new 10-day transfer sites
  • Determine and utilize transportation performance metrics for service, cost and utilization.  Direct changes to transportation operations to improve overall performance
  • Ensure that EQ is in compliance with DOT requirements and all applicable federal, state and local laws
  • Work with management and IT Department to direct the implementation of transportation technology including deployment and use of vehicle routing, onboard computers and onboard printing and scanning equipment
  • Manage 3rd party carrier utilization, cost and performance through outside leasing companies.  Determine the use of 3rd party carriers vs. internal fleet, and direct operations accordingly
  • Monitor key customer accounts to ensure timely and complete receipt of orders and interact directly with customers to resolve issues
  • Develop and implement departmental policies as needed
  • Establish open communication with team members through regularly scheduled  meetings
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment
  • Conduct investigations to determine causes of transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures
  • Work with management team including Finance, Sales, Customer Service, IT and HR staff  to identify problems and resolve issues
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the Company
  • Complete all other assignments made by management
 
Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 6-8 years directly applicable experience with a High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT and RCRA regulations
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and be able to make quick decisions which will affect daily operations and customer satisfaction levels
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of all types of applicable transportation equipment and various uses and capabilities
  • Excellent and effective verbal and communication skills
  • Thorough use and application of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
