DescriptionIRC offers ESL/Civics classes for eligible LPRs from the tri-county region. Classes connected to citizenship (geared to students with a High Beginning and Intermediate English skill level as well as those eligible to be exempted from demonstrating English language ability at the naturalization interview), will begin an IRC class. Class cycle will run for 12 consecutive weeks and it is expected that all classes will meet 2 times per week for a 3-hour period.
SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP WORK: To provide administrative support to ESL/Civics teacher, in preparation for the start of classes. This role will require flexibility, as duties may range from translating USCIS Natz and Civics materials into the second language (for the language exemption classes), to contacting students to confirm class schedule, creating files for each registered student, following up with other IRC staff regarding donations for classroom, helping set up the classroom, etc. The Volunteer ESL Tutor will assist IRC staff and/or ESL instructors in teaching refugees English language skills.
