The Methodist DeBakey Heart Vascular Center Chief of Cardiac Surgery in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at The Methodist Hospital provides leadership to one of the most innovative and comprehensive cardiovascular surgery programs in the country. This is a dynamic department which comprises cardiac surgery, thoracic transplantation and vascular surgery. In the tradition of excellence in cardiovascular services that spans more than 70 years, the Chief is responsible for ensuring superior quality of cardiovascular patient care services, furthering clinical excellence, promoting clinical and basic research, fostering the academic and professional growth of faculty, developing the physicians of the future through resident and fellowship training, and continuing education programs in all cardiac subspecialties. This individual is required to have an understanding of quality program management, strategic planning, operational improvement, financial management and fund development, as well as physician practice and health system administration, while demonstrating the highest level of ethical conduct. The Division Chief promotes communication and collaboration within and across departments, and works in partnership with hospital administration to advance the Methodist's values of teaching excellence, research innovation, and compassionate patient care. The position requires an MD degree and active board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a demonstrated history of accomplishments that qualify the individual at the rank of Professor in the Weill Cornell Medical College. In addition, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery will be expected to help lead our multiple annual symposia, build hands on cardiac surgery training programs in the Methodist Institute for Technology Innovation and Education and participate in 'Pumps and Pipes. This is a unique annual interactive event with engineers from the energy business.
