JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Specialist I (CS1) clinical pharmacist performs advanced pharmacist duties that facilitate the delivery of optimal pharmacotherapy to patients and facilitate safe, efficacious, and pharmacoeconomically rational use of medications in the population(s) served. This involves daily pro-active medication therapy reviews of patients within designated area(s) of responsibility, rounds with medical and nursing staffs, providing education to fellow pharmacists, nursing and medical staffs while conducting CQI evaluations and basic research that promotes the safe, effective use of medications. The CS1 is active with precepting pharmacy students and pharmacy residents on clinical rotations.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent advanced degree in pharmacy and have successfully completed ASHP-accredited post-graduate year 1 (PGY1) and PGY-2 residency training programs or have demonstrated equivalent professional experience.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
In addition to demonstrated excellence in patient care practice, successful candidates will have a demonstrated a record of experience with advanced pharmacy practice that includes a record of teaching at the PGY2 level, research publications and/or grant awards and institutional leadership. Typically 1 ' 3 years of practice excellence at the CS1 level are required to gain experience needed for the CS2 position.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
'Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of Texas.
'Must maintain continuing education credits to maintain professional licensure.
'Maintain a Board of Pharmacy Specialists (BPS) certification (Pharmacotherapy, nutrition support, oncology, etc) [a 3-year phase in period ending January 31st 2012 will be allowed for existing staff currently at the CS2 level]
'Must maintain a current Texas pharmacist preceptor license.
'Must be credentialed with the TMH Research Institute (TMHRI)
'BLS and ACLS Certification

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
'Must operate at the expert level with regards to one's understanding of the principles of rational drug therapy (application of evidence based guidelines etc)
'Must have skills in supervising and training peers, residents, students, and supportive personnel.
'Must demonstrate regular contributions to the pharmaceutical literature and / or professional practice of pharmacy (i.e. through service in leadership positions in professional organizations).
'Must posses excellent time / project management skills and demonstrate ability to coordinate efforts of peers and other pharmacy, nursing, administrative and medical staffs
'Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
'Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and related software.
