JOB SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the RA I position is to study immune responses against cancer and suppressive mechanisms of regulatory T cells in cancer therapy, innate immune signaling and regulation of immune cells. Research Assistant I will provide technical support for laboratory based research in a highly multi-disciplinary team conducting research in the areas of immunology and epigenetics involving bench techniques, laboratory animal work, scientific writing, and data analysis. This position will be responsible for handling mice and managing mice colonies for the research team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Director, or senior laboratory staff this position may include:

Animal handling, which may include necropsies, tail cutting, breeding, genotyping, weaning, euthanasia, minor surgical procedures and basic animal husbandry, PCR techniques, and gel electrophoresis
Perform tasks to isolate immune cell from mice tissue, culture them and analyze them by flow cytometry
Work closely with Postdoctoral Fellows to assist with projects.
Bench chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or other scientific techniques
Microscope work and image analysis
Write protocols and procedures
Collection of tissue, blood or other biological specimens
Collect, record, compile and analyze data
Take inventory and maintain lab supplies and equipment.
Oversee equipment calibration, certification and maintenance agreements.
Maintain Safety, Emergency Preparedness, MSDS and other Laboratory Specific procedures.
Participate in the development or establishment of new laboratory procedures, including biological assays, quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Operates a variety of laboratory equipment.
Effectively utilizes computer systems, including office applications, and statistical or technical software.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
AA with 5+ years experience
Or
BA/BS with no experience

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge in cell biology and at least one year of tissue culture experience. Three years of research related experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
None required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Standard laboratory or Vivarium environments; some assignments may be in hospital units with typical hospital environmental hazards and concerns.
