Description: JOB SUMMARY The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks including preparing laboratory and clinical studies and documents for submission to journals and granting agencies; assisting with, participating in, or spearheading the writing of grant applications; writing manuscripts and progress reports; writing text and preparing content for website posting; and preparing protocols, consents, reports and manuscripts for publication.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Writing and editing all scientific articles for publication. Preparing protocols (including amendments and informed consents), reports, and manuscripts for publication. Assisting with or spearheading the writing of grant applications, awards, contracts, subcontracts and other agreements. Interpreting data and advising sponsors as to how best to present data in light of regulatory agency requirements. Instructing and supervising administrative assistants in editing and compiling appendices of documents related to clinical studies and reports. Coordinating all medical writing projects. Working with department to ensure that specific requirements with respect to document content and format are met. Submitting grant proposals and manuscripts for editing. Assures compliance with Methodist policies, rules, and regulations to meet federal, state, and local standards. Acts as a central resource for TMHRI investigators. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor of Arts degree in a relevant field required. Graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in a biological science field preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Three-plus years of experience in science writing/editing required. This position requires experience in technical writing in a scientific or technical field. Prefer someone with experience in writing biomedical manuscripts, as well as the grants application process, and editing of biomedical manuscripts prior to submission.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED None required.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED An excellent understanding of scientific/medical terminology and basic sciences Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills Excellent organizational skills and attention to details and the ability to multi-task Excellent computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, EndNote/Reference Manager, and DNAStar. Ability to work effectively on a team Strong interpersonal skills
