Summary of Duties

The Medical Director of Methodist Wellness Services, a department of The Methodist Hospital, in conjunction with the Vice President and Department Director, will facilitate high quality patient care and population health management in an effective manner. The Medical Director of Methodist Wellness Services will be responsible for oversight, quality assurance and evidenced based medicine of Methodist Wellness Services' clinical care services, which are offered to corporate and private clients both onsite and offsite.
The Medical Director will provide strategic and operational leadership to areas of accountability, and will utilize assessment, planning, facilitation, implementation, and evaluation to develop and provide ongoing coordination of high-quality, evidence-based clinical care management initiatives. The Medical Director will support the development and refinement of tools, processes, and systems to optimize the clinical care management outcomes both locally and enterprise wide. He/She will develop, coordinate, and evaluate initiatives to support the missions and objectives of The Methodist Hospital System as they relate to wellness services, including but not limited to occupational medicine, prevention and population health management both internally and externally, revenue generation and market penetration.
The Medical Director will assure that quality, safety, and appropriateness of services are monitored and evaluated, and that appropriate actions based on findings are taken.
Primary Responsibilities
'Provide clinical leadership and supervise wellness clinics, clinical programs and cardiac rehab program
'Perform physicals including pre-employment, post offers, comprehensive, executive, periodic, healthy lifestyle, fit for duty and other customized corporate physicals.
'Performs drug screenings and serves as Medical Review Officer for follow up and reporting
'Performs travel medicine services; reviews recommendations and approves vaccinations
'Performs treadmill stress tests and interprets EKGs
'Interprets Pulmonary Function results, hearing and vision results; provides analysis and recommendations
'Reviews labs and X-rays; provide recommendations for follow up
'Provides consultations to clients/patients with critical lab results
'Provides supervision of cardiac rehab program; reviewing EKGs, providing referrals for problems, signing daily worksheets and monthly progress reports, reviewing new patient charts, providing consultation with patient's cardiologist when needed, performing rounding and providing expertise to cardiac rehab team.
'Provides emergency response for wellness Clinic and Cardiac Rehab.
'Participate in the development and review of protocols, procedures and processes that support prevention and health improvement
'Effectively collaborate with Wellness Director and management to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory agencies/requirements.
'Ensure that clinical policies and procedures promote safety, efficiency and quality assurance.
'Identify and manage implementation of improvements and innovations in medical services, population health management strategies and wellness programs and services in associated delivery systems.
'Participate in DNV preparation assessments and survey.
'Communicate with Wellness Director regarding services and clinical enhancements necessary to maintain or achieve state of the art health management/practice environment.
'Responsible for increasing referrals for health improvement programs from practicing physicians to Methodist Wellness Services to increase volumes and health improvement.
'Assure compliance with hospital and other regulatory safety requirements.
'Serve as a liaison with department director to assure appropriate utilization of resources
'Meet with the department director on a regular basis to review necessary data relating to operations, i.e. budget issues, financial status, staffing, and patient volumes.
'Supervise and mentor part time, PRN and contract physicians to ensure quality, efficiency and patient/client satisfaction
'Personally provide health improvement strategies and referrals into Wellness Programs such as health coaching, tobacco cessation, diabetes management, weight loss, fitness, stress, hypertension and cholesterol management
'Responsible for the leadership and development of a comprehensive research program to support Methodist Wellness Services' population health management strategies
'Provide hands-on analysis, interpretation of analysis, and preparation of reports for both internal and external use and distribution.

Quality assurance participation:
'Meet regularly with the Corporate manager to discuss issues in the clinic operations
'Work in concert with the Departmental Director and Corporate Manager to ensure that all processes and personnel are optimized
'Oversee medical practice guidelines and standards
'Provide clinical leadership and expertise within the Methodist Wellness Services team to improve patient care and quality outcomes
'Support CMS, HEDIS compliance with NCQA standards and other qualification activities including preparing for DNV site visits, audits and responding to accrediting and regulatory agency feedback
'Promote Wellness Services and present quality metrics, patient satisfaction data, and other relevant data at appropriate physician meetings.

Other key responsibilities:
'Provide information and analytic support to the Director of Wellness Services in to facilitate strategic planning, resource allocation, market projections, and other processes requiring sound strategic analysis.
'Recommend potential growth opportunities for new or existing services within the market.
'Promote wellness and ensure programs of prevention, education, and outreach to employees and clients are consistent with the Methodist Hospital System's mission, vision and values.
'Participate in key marketing activities and presentations.
'Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new information and technologies in medicine and their application to population health management strategies.
'Represent Methodist Wellness Services at medical group meetings, conferences, etc.
'Assure that medical staff interacts with clients, hospital employees and patients in a professional and appropriate manner in order to achieve the objectives of the hospital.
'Collaborate closely across all disciplines of The Methodist Hospital System for project work as needed.

Job Qualifications
'Current medical license in state of practice and in good standing with medical board
'Credentialed for full scope of practice at the hospital
'Board-certified in internal medicine, or one of its sub-specialties; occupational medicine experience preferred
'Experience with research and quality improvement methodology is preferred
'Minimum 5 years directly applicable experience in clinical care, population health management, worksite wellness and/or occupational medicine.
'Knowledge of population health management, occupational medicine and worksite wellness
'Knowledge of healthcare administration and IPA philosophy and policies and operating procedures.
'Must maintain active member status on the Medical Staff with uninterrupted privileges abiding by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
'Must be in compliance with the Conflict of Interest policy of The Methodist Health care System. On an annual basis, identify potential conflicts of interest and current employment, leadership and other influential relationships with other institutions including, but not limited to the hospitals, manufacturers and suppliers.
'Serve as the primary liaison between physicians and hospital employees.
