Description: JOB SUMMARY The Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) is a skilled ultrasound professional, specializing in the independent performance of a wide range of non-invasive ultrasound exams used in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of vascular origin. The RVT must demonstrate the ability to effectively function within a group practice, communicate well with staff, physicians and patients, and will continuously strive to improve his or her own performance. The RVT will demonstrate strong customer service skills in concert with The Methodist Hospital values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence in addition to Service Pride standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.Demonstrate competence in the performance of non-invasive vascular examinations according to internally generated policy and procedure. 2.Applies vascular ultrasound knowledge and skills to clinical situations and assumes responsibility for monitoring patient outcomes. 3.Demonstrate critical thinking in the application of technical skills. 4.Functions as a team member, responding willingly to colleagues needs for assistance and partnership. 5.Will function as a mentor to new staff. 6.Practices and documents the department process reflecting the age-specific needs of the patient population. 7.Participates in unit based staff education and TMH Vascular Diagnostic Lab weekly conferences. 8.Demonstrates critical thinking in handling complex situations. 9.Engages in continuous learning as evidenced by formal and informal education. 10.Provides appropriate teaching to patients and family members. 11.Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values ' Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. 12.Demonstrates ServicePride standards (smiles and makes eye contact: greets patient and visitors; seeks out patient and visitor contact; displays appropriate body language at all times; takes 5 minutes each day to go above and beyond for one patient or visitor; honors diversity; thanks every customer). 13.Follows all safety rules while on the job. DIMENSIONS
'Must be able to perform a comprehensive history and physical on each patient pertinent to the exam being performed, to include current symptoms, medical history (risk factors), previous vascular surgery and how each component relates to the non-invasive study to be performed. 'Independently performs carotid, extremity arterial and venous and abdominal vascular ultrasounds according to department protocol. 'Generates a preliminary report for all exams based on exam findings and department interpretation criteria for each exam. 'Relays critical exam findings to the referring physician according to department policy. 'Presents case summaries at The Methodist Hospital Diagnostic Vascular Lab weekly vascular ultrasound conference. 'Ensure patient comfort through the use of blankets, positioning, bedpans, and urinals. 'Ensure patient safety at all times. 'Has strong oral and written communication skills 'Participates in departmental quality assurance program 'Actively participates in unit ICAVL ongoing accreditation process. 'Assists Vascular Laboratory Manager with generation of policy and procedure, stocking and ordering of supplies, and maintenance of equipment. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Associate degree in ultrasound or certification from an accredited ultrasound diagnostic school, prefer bachelor's degree in vascular ultrasound or other healthcare related field (More experience may be required)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS At least two years experience in an accredited non-invasive vascular laboratory. Prefer some hospital based experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Current registry by ARDMS for Registered Vascular Technologist.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Must be able to write and speak effectively in English. Knowledge of Spanish helpful. Experience with MS Word and Excel required, PowerPoint and MS Access experience helpful.
