Environmental Education Intern

Position:
Environmental Education Intern, unpaid, compensated housing may be available

Duty Station:
Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge is located just ten miles northeast of downtown Denver and is the largest contiguous open space in the Denver metropolitan area. The site finished a major environmental restoration program in October 2010 and has become one of the largest urban national wildlife refuges in the United States. A new sustainable Visitor Center will be opening Spring 2011. For more information about the Refuge, visit www.fws.gov/rockymountainarsenal.

General Duties:
*Assist with overall EE program such as: staff-led program development, budget, promotion, scheduling, and correlating all curriculum to standards
*Lead curriculum based programs for local school systems as well as educational programs for summer camps and the general public
*Create computer generated material, mail-outs of announcements and confirmations to schools and other groups, laminate materials, create exhibits and special projects as assigned
*Design and develop curriculum activities for on-site teacher-led field trips and off-site programs that focus on natural resource management and human/wildlife interrelationships
*Revise and update outreach curriculum trunks for teachers to use in classroom that correlate with standards using innovative approaches and methods to enhance education
*Plan and present off-site educational programs to schools and special request groups
*Contribute to website revisions specifically regarding school programs, teacher resources, and kid pages
*Research, plan and design teacher packs for on-site check-out that are correlated to state standards
*Assist in coordination, preparation and facilitation of teacher workshops such as Project WILD

Other Duties:
*Fill in at visitor center as needed
*Present public interpretive programs, presentations, tours and other public use programs
*Involvement in special events such as Fishing Frenzy, Refuge Roundup and Wild Walk
*Staff outreach booths, lead outreach activities and presentations
*Help with scout programs, workshops and events
*Construct trails and assist with maintenance of trails
*Assist other divisions with projects when schedule permits
