Our Federal Professional Services Organization is focused on providing our federal customers support in the evaluation and deployment of our entire line of VMware products. Our Federal team focuses on all aspects of Government sectors including Civilian, Intelligence and Department of Defense agencies. The projects or engagements will include non-security cleared professionals up to the highest level security cleared consultants including TS/SCI full scope poly clearances. This group makes an impact at the highest level of national safety and security, by working with Federal customers in the design, architecture, and implementation of the VMware product lines. The Federal PSO Consulting Services team consists of highly skilled, technical, and business focused consultants expertly architected to ensure project and engagement success throughout Federal customers.

Job Description

As a VMware Consulting Architect, you will provide customers and the Public Sector Professional Service Organization technical leadership in the installation, configuration, and implementation of VMware products and services. You will help to document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and provide them into our knowledge base for best practices by customers and partners. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) Operational Readiness, Business Continuance, Disaster Recovery, and Storage, and IT services Delivery. Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership to VMware professional services consulting project teams, which will include project work at customer sites

  • Design and develop innovative solutions to customer requirements using our server, datacenter, vCHS, and desktop products, with assistance from our internal engineering group as required

  • Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware product line

  • Assist in the development of standard reusable VMware “productized” consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard estimate

  • Participate in the pre-sales process to understand customer business and technical objectives and product requirements, in order to develop effective solutions

  • Help to document best practices in developing and deploying VMware solutions, and feed them into our knowledge base for reuse by customers and partners

  • Recruit and mentor other technical consulting staff Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience

  • At least 6 years experience in customer-facing positions as a professional services consultant or engineer, preferably with an Internet or “Big 5” consulting organization, DOD, or Federal Services Integrator, or Federal Agency

  • Experience with modern software development methodologies, with emphasis on software and hardware architecture, and infrastructure design and development

  • At least 3 years experience in infrastructure architecture and design of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques, recovery/rollback, and application partitioning

  • At least 2 years experience in a technical lead role for small- or medium-size teams

  • Strong practical Unix or Linux systems administration skills

  • Strong application software development for one or more of the Linux, Unix (e.g. Solaris), Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems. Systems programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage

  • Understanding of computer server architectures, including peripheral interfaces (SCSI, RAID, Ethernet) and multi-processor designs (SMP)

  • Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards (e.g. SNMP); capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network management

  • Understanding of modern IT production data center and Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting operations

  • Strong Perl programming/scripting skills required. Programming in C/C++ and Unix shell are also an advantage

  • A good practical understanding of Web-based application development, including cgi-bin, and Apache or IIS server platforms

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to travel up to 50 percent of the time, including international

  • B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent technical training

  • DOD security clearance required
