DescriptionThis position will be responsible for the technical execution of Wyle’s system engineering support activities related to the DoD’s evolving Airworthiness certification task. Task support operations will be based at Wyle’s office near Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH and report to the Aeronautical Sector Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Program Manager. The primary focus of this tasking will be to lead the technical effort supporting Air Force and DoD’s overall program approach to achieving and maintaining air system airworthiness. This activity includes providing training and technical support to Air Force and DoD agencies in relation to the framework under which detailed airworthiness planning and execution is accomplished. Support activities will be coordinated with senior managers of the DoD, Air Force Material Command as well as other U.S. Government agencies responsible/accountable for airworthiness compliance. The position will require some travel to CONUS locations and occasional travel OCONUS.
Education: Master’s Degree in Engineering, Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering required. Additional education to include a Master’s Degree in Business Management or similar highly desired. Experience: A minimum of 15 years of Systems Engineering and Technical Management experience is required, including performance in a supervisory role. In addition, 8 years of experience at the Director of Engineering and/or Technical Director level are required. Prior Airworthiness Board member experience is required. Expert level knowledge is demonstrated by being Level 1 certified airworthiness subject matter expert in systems engineering. Additionally, the candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills including experience in developing and delivering technical program/project status and capability briefs at the senior executive level. APDP level III Systems Engineering and Level III Program Systems Engineering is required. Tri-service experience in systems engineering is desired. Understanding of DoD Remote Piloted Aircraft (RPA) airworthiness process is desired as is experience with foreign air platform certification procedures. Experience with RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1 Predator systems is highly desired. Experience with both fixed wing and rotary platforms as well as RPA is desired. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The candidate must possess an in-depth understanding of the processes related to air system airworthiness certification, tailored airworthiness certification criteria (TACC), and reportable modification airworthiness certification criteria (MACC) documents; and Military Type Certificates (MTC) issuance, Military Experimental Flight Releases (MEFR), Military Restricted Flight Releases (MRFR), and non-design-based special flight releases. The candidate also must possess an understanding of USAF Airworthiness Board operations and procedures including demonstrated expert level technical knowledge of design based airworthiness certification and MIL-HDBK-516B processes and procedures. Candidate must be familiar with the certification processes and procedures of other DoD Services and the FAA.
